May is the perfect time to travel and while I know you probably don’t need that much convincing to book another trip, just indulge me!
It really is the perfect month to disappear as it borders winter if you’re in the south and summer if you’re in the north. It’s also prime time to go in search of hidden gems with low prices! Here are ten must visit destinations for the month of May.
Peru
One of the best months to explore Peru is during May as the rainy season has just ended. Lush valleys and less crowds will make for a photographers paradise! It also means hiking the Inca Trail will be a much more pleasant experience.
Italy
With perfect weather and a host of fun festivals during May, Italy is the place to be! Wander through the rolling hills of Tuscany or experience the magical sound of crickets in Florence. Gardens are in full bloom all over Italy at this time of year so be sure to wander into the prettiness.
Greece
May is a great time to visit Greece if you want to avoid the crowds. Enjoy relaxing on the long stretch beaches of Crete or take in the rich culture while still being able to get some pretty great discounted room rates. The weather is warm, days are comfortable and evenings are cooler. What more could you need?
Prague
Prague is one of those European cities that is just beautiful all year round. May is particularly special as the city comes to life as it overflows with blooming gardens filled with magnolia trees! Be sure to experience the Prague Spring Music Festival and the Czech Beer Festival during this time of year.
The Bahamas
With lower rates and good weather, May seems like one of the best times of the year to travel to this exotic island destination. Being located in the Caribbean, it’s only natural to worry about hurricanes but these are minimal at this time of year. Humidity is low and bugs are scarce during May, making rest and relaxation something that should be high on your list of island life priorities.
Nepal
Climbing the Himalayas is high on my list of “Things to do before I die” and if it’s on yours too, then May is one of the best times to head to Nepal. Rainfall is particularly low at this time of year and visibility is good which will make the climb a lot easier. Buddha’s birthday is somewhere around mid-May so be sure to experience the varying traditions across all of Nepal as each minority is known to celebrate in their own special way.
France
The charming French city of Lille is the place to be around May. Located just one hour outside of Paris, Lille holds some of the most artistic areas to be found in a city. Filled with public art spaces, modern museums, cute bistros and cozy cafés, it is the perfect stop for a May vacation.
Denmark
The famous city of Copenhagen comes to life in May. Filled with beautiful canals, delicious food and a fun culture, Copenhagen is one of the safer, uncrowded European towns at this time of year.
Malta
Wander through this small medieval town and explore the ancient temples and Maltese vineyards! It’s also a great place to simply sit back and relax at a Malta beach while waves lap at your feet.
Monaco
The glitzy city of Monaco is bustling in May as it’s the time for the all famous Grand Prix! If you or anyone in the family loves cars then this is place to be. It can get quite busy at this time of year so be sure to book your hotels early.
