With baby sis living in the Big Apple for close to three months, it was an absolute adventure to be able to visit her and finally get to tick off New York from my bucket list. One week into my visit we had done so much already… Climbing Empire State, visiting the United Nations Building, wandering museums, watching a show on Broadway and eating endless delicious treats… I mean who needs to sleep, right?
We were having so much fun that I didn’t think it could get any better… that was at least until baby sis secretly planned an all girl’s day adventure… and by that, I mean shopping on 5th Avenue, afternoon tea at Laduree and then something even more magical than I could ever have imagined… pre booked make overs at Sephora!
Now let’s be honest girls… who doesn’t love Sephora on a good day? I mean, it’s like stepping into the black hole of beauty stores, with thousands of hair, skin and nail products, endless brands of make-up, fragrances and so much more.
But having someone from Sephora make you all pretty for a girly night out on the Upper West Side?
Um… yes… please!
So just a little background… Sephora offers three different types of makeovers: mini, custom and a personal one-on-one. The small mini make-over is a 15-minute free session in which you can chose one of the store’s signature looks. These include the Smoky Eye, Contour & Highlighting, Polished Brows, Everyday Eye, Essential Eyeliner, Flawless Foundation, Treat & Conceal, Blush & Bronze, Perfect Lips, or False Lash Application. The free mini make over is currently offered only in Los Angeles, New York, and Las Vegas and you will need to book online to ensure you get a spot, especially if you’re just visiting these cities for a few days.
The next option is the custom make over. This was the option baby sis booked us in for. The custom makeover is a full 45-minute session carried out by a beauty advisor. While the makeover itself is free, you will have to spend at least a minimum of $50 instore. But let’s be honest, of course we were going to spend $$$ in store. the last option is a personal one-on-one session with a senior beauty expert. It’s a 90-minute customized skin-care, fragrance, and beauty makeover with a $125 minimum purchase.
Our session began by basic introductions with our beauty advisor who did a simple cleanse and examination of our skin type. This was followed by a quick chat about the look we were going for.
We both chose a simple natural look for a night out on the town.
Forty-five minutes later and voila… we were done!
Our session ended with a quick chat about the products used on our skin. The best part? Your Sephora beauty advisor will scan all the products during your make over session and email you a list with pricing so you can purchase and recreate the same look at home. Pretty cool if you ask me.
By the time we were done, the sun had set and the pretty evening lights of Manhattan had come to life. And just like that… off we went for a pretty night out on the Upper West Side.
