If you’re exploring Beijing, of course you’ll have tons of things to see but have you thought about all the wondrous things you could eat? As the day draws to a close and night sets in, Wangfujing comes to life. Tucked away at the northern entrance of Donganmen Dajie Street, you’ll find an Asian culinary heaven.
The Donghuamen Night Market is one of the most popular night markets in Beijing, housing a whirlwind of tastes from both North and South China. Lined with endless bustling stalls on either side of the street, you will see and taste some of the most delicious and strangest foods in China.
Live scorpions for starters.
Fried roaches and centipedes stretched out over a skewer. Deep fried with a dash of soy sauce.
Deep whole fried crab.
From offal soup to deep fried tarantulas to silk worms to various snakes, grasshoppers and starfish. If it moves, you can be sure to find it here, served up and ready to be eaten.
If you’re feeling a little less adventurous, there are tons of other more savory options too. Quail eggs, spring rolls, deep fried mango, endless kinds of dumplings, candied fruits and even goodies for vegetarians.
Amidst the food stalls, there are endless little alleyways lit up with neon lights, housing stalls with trinkets and souvenirs.
Grab a bite of something interesting and wander on inwards for a little bit of bargaining! Sounds pretty good to me!You can watch our experience at the Donghuamen Night Market on YouTube.
