It’s been a while since I have written a life post and that’s most likely because I have been so busy living! Truth be told, it’s also because life in China was pretty busy. Since I began my contract with The Walt Disney Company in 2015, I have had very little time for myself and I mean just me. To do the things that I wanted to do without other outlying interferences. Don’t get me wrong, it was an absolute blast of a year and I got to see so many wonderful places, do so many wonderful things and make so many dreams come true with my job. Dreams of my own and dreams of other humans, big and small. That was more than I had ever hoped for. Never in a million years did I think that I would work for such a big brand, one that I have loved ever since I was a kid! But I did it. I made it happen and loved every minute of it.
Of course, shoddy internet connections and the great Chinese firewall did prevent me uploading a ton of blog posts. That together with the constant poor air quality in Beijing did make me rethink my life choices. Now that I am back in the Kingdom of the Zulu, I am more than ready to live my life and achieve big things. It’s a brand new year and I’ve got big dreams and many goals set out for me as I turn the big three zero in a few months.
In one of my darkest hours, a friend once said to me, just write. Write what you are feeling on a piece of paper and keep it with you. When the time is right, pull out that piece of paper and read what you have written. So at the end of 2013, my blog was born. I started Life, Love and Travel as a way to write down my feelings and thoughts about living a twenty something life. It also became somewhat of an online travel journal of sorts. A way to document my travel experiences so that one day I could look back and remember all the wonderful adventures of a life well lived – and yes thus far, it has been a life well lived.
Turning 30 may be scary to some but for me, I am inspired. Inspired to achieve great things and inspired to go out and get the things I want. As I approach the road to being thirty, I know it’s time for a change too. I guess that will explain the change in design and domain name of my blog – something a little more professional, a tad classier and a lot more personal. Life, Love and Travel has officially turned into Life of Shal. A new blog but of course, the same old me with the same wandering heart. Just bigger dreams which of course I will share with you in the near future.
To my loved ones and readers who have followed my journey from conception and design to design, thank you. You inspire me to create. So, here’s to 2017. May this year be filled with endless possibilities, even more growth than the last and of course life.
They say life only begins at 30. Here’s to that. I can’t wait.
